Love it or hate it, cleaning is part of everyday life that we all must accept. I have friends who find it therapeutic, but I don’t take pleasure in scrubbing a toilet or keeping my shower sparkling clean. In fact, mopping the floor is one of my least favourite household tasks, which is why I was instantly intrigued by the Tineco Floor One S5 Cordless Wet-Dry Vacuum Cleaner.

My experience with the Tinco Floor One S5
Setting up: When I first received the vacuum, there wasn’t much to do in terms of setup. The Tineco Floor One S5 arrives in two pieces, and the handle simply needs to be connected to the body. There are a couple of attachments that snap onto the charging base to hold extra rollers and filters, but you could easily do away with those to take up a smaller footprint. Once everything is connected, just find a spot for the charging base, plug it in and let the vacuum start juicing up.
My vacuum arrived at about a 40 per cent charge, so I let it stay plugged into the base overnight before attempting my first clean.
Cleaning: To get started, you first need to fill up the water tank – cleaning solution optional, but recommended for bigger messes. Unlike some other cleaning tools I’ve used in the past, this one takes standard tap water rather than distilled, which I appreciate.
There are two cleaning modes to choose from: automatic and max. I found that even with the automatic mode, the Floor One is powerful enough to tackle my kitchen and living room’s vinyl flooring. It also does a great job on wood laminate, and the tiles in my bathroom and front entrance, which gets a lot of traffic and built-up dirt.

This wet-dry vacuum uses water to clean surfaces so it does leave behind a bit of a wet surface. That said, it’s much less than a standard mop and bucket, and it dries down completely in about five minutes.
Once you’ve finished cleaning, you need to empty out the dirty water tank, which I’ll admit isn’t as fun as actually using the Floor One. It collects a surprising amount of debris, so I drain the water in the sink and throw the rest in the garbage to avoid the risk of causing a clogged drain. I then rinse the tank and return it to the vacuum to run the self-clean setting. Lastly, I empty out the tank a second time and let it air dry before placing it back in the vacuum base.
Things to note: This cordless floor cleaner has quite a bit of power in its motor, which I wasn’t expecting. The forward motion from the rotating roller brush causes it to pull when cleaning, which takes a bit of time to get the hang of. Once you figure it out, it’s pretty smooth sailing as the Floor One has just a few buttons and is quite simple to use.
Another thing to note is that while it does a great job at cleaning surfaces and removing dirt, dust, crumbs and hair, if you have spills that have dried down, expect to still do a bit of scrubbing to get them out.

Final thoughts on the Floor One S5
As someone with several different types of flooring in my home, I’m a big fan of devices that can tackle them all in one go. While the Tineco Floor One S5 doesn’t work on carpets, it’s done a great job on every other surface that I’ve tried it on. It’s gotten two thumbs up from both me and my husband, who was especially impressed by the amount of hair that this device is able to suction up.
It is on the pricey side for a vacuum and is on par with other devices from brands like Dyson. However, it’s so far been well worth the price – especially if you can score it on sale at its current price of $420 instead of $650.
